Spring is here, and it's the perfect time to give your bike the thorough cleaning it deserves after all of winter's challenges.
We have put together 5 simple steps to getting your bike ready and looking fresh as a daisy.
1. PRE WASH
Remove any accessories like water bottles, bags or lights. Rinse down your bike with fresh water to help soften any stubborn or excess caked on dirt.
2. DEEP CLEAN
We recommend starting with the dirtiest bits first, your drivetrain. For this paint our Dirt Juice, Chain Cleaner onto your mucky bits and use the Stiffler, Drivetrain Brush to give your chainring, chain, mech and cassette a good scrub. You can then use our Dirty Little Scrubber, Chain Cleaning Tool to quickly and easily deep clean your chain. Give the drivetrain a rinse before moving on to your tyres. Use the Dirt Daddy, Tyre & Cassette Brush and Dirt Juice, Bike Cleaner to help you.
Next you can turn your attention to the frame and other components. For this we recommend our Dirt Juice Super, Concentrated Bike Cleaner to break down grime. Not only can it be used neat to shift the most stubborn dirt, but it makes up to 10L of our regular powerful and fast-acting Dirt Juice, Bike Cleaner, giving you more bang for your buck. Dilute as directed, apply, and let it sit for a few minutes before using the Big Softy, Soft Wash Brush to help loosen dirt from the bike. Use the Double Ender, Two Prong Brush for those hard to reach bits.
3. RINSE & DRY
Rinse off the suds and use our Juice Rag, Finishing Cloth to wipe everything down to prevent rust and water spots. Apply some JL69, Bike Maintenance Spray to your pivots, drivetrain, pedals and any other crevices to help drive out moisture and also prevent corrosion.
4. LUBE UP
Once dry, apply your favourite chain lube. We've different lubes for different conditions. If you aren't sure what the weather may throw at you then we would recommend Viking Juice, All Conditions Chain Lube to the chain. Each lube sets up and works slightly differently, so follow the instructions and make sure the chain is sufficiently lubricated.
5. FINISH UP
Now your bike is clean, give it a quick once over whilst you can see everything clearly. Check for any damges or further maintenance that may be required before your next outing. Apply Frame Juice, Gloss Frame Polish to give your bike a showroom shine. It will also provide a protective layer that helps to prevent dirt adhesion. If you've got a matt finish bike use our Frame Juice, Matt Finish Detailer instead.
